The “Etiquette” of Calling Cards

Fanshawe Pioneer Village

Discover the intricate etiquette of calling cards! Manners and social calls were an important part of the Victorian era, and little things could tell you a lot. Visit Peel house, and use the proof press at our Free Press building to print a simple calling card. Then head to the Spriet Family Visitor Centre to create your own inked watercolour calling card. Note: Because of light restrictions please be sure to arrive by 6:20 as the group will be leaving the meeting area at 6:30. To register please visit our Eventbrite page.

 

 

Dive into Dying

Experience Elgie Log House by fire light as you learn about the art of dying wool and fabric. Find out how to make a mordant and dye bath in your own home so you can dye your own projects using things from the world around you. Create something to take home. Antiques and Appraisals

Thursday, May 18, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Eldon House Interpretive Centre

Bring your treasures to share with others and receive an assessment of your items from professional appraiser Grant Gardner of Gardner Galleries. The evening will include a guided tour of Eldon House highlighting the most valued and rare items in the Eldon House collection, appraised by Gardner himself. Refreshments will be served. Note: Guests are limited to 3 items of silver, china, glass, collectibles, and small paintings. Assessment values are opinion only. Tea Leaves, Tarot Cards and the Occult

Friday, May 19, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Eldon House Interpretive Centre

Join instructor Caroline Whitehead and learn about the Victorian fascination with fortune-telling and the occult. Guests will learn the art of tarot card reading as well as tea leaf reading and palmistry and will be invited to practice their new skills with one another, and view demonstrations from a practicing expert. Parlour Games Workshop

Saturday, May 20, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Eldon House Interpretive Centre

Join us for a night of fun and parlour games in our Interpretive Centre. Guests will receive instruction and enjoy popular games from the Victorian era, including some Harris family favourites like Whist and Cribbage as well as crokinole, dominoes and more.
