British Home Children Exhibit
Until April 15, 2017 (12:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

The Elman W. Campbell Museum and the British Home Child Group International present an exhibit on British Home Children, at the Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford Street, Newmarket, from April 1 to April 15.  Personal memorabilia such as trunks, photographs, postcards, and medals, will form a significant portion of this exhibit, which focusses on the British children who were sent to Canada between 1869 and 1939 to work as indentured farm workers and domestics.  A presentation will be made on April 1 at 12 noon featuring the film "Lost and Found" and an account of a Newmarket-area family that hosted home children.  The unveiling of a Sesquicentennial Canadian Memorial British Home Child 2017 Quilt will take place at 2p.m.  A panel discussion will follow.  Regular hours for the exhibit will be 12 noon until 8 p.m.  The exhibit is the creation of the British Home Child Group International, an organization dedicated to raising awareness, reuniting families separated by this child migrant scheme, and providing free genealogical research to descendants.  It features the Phyl Wright, Karen Mahoney and Sandra Joyce Collections.  For more information contact the Elman W. Campbell Museum at 905-953-5314.
