Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre / Wishart Library Program

The Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre (SRSC) provides educational tours and presentations focusing on the history of Indigenous education in Sault Ste Marie.  Tour participants will have the oppertunity to learn about the Shingwauk and Wawanosh Indian Residential Schools and to tour the historic grounds. 

Tours typically include a presentation focusing on Residential Schools in Sault Ste Marie, a Residential School Survivor speaking about their experience and a tour of the grounds.  The grounds portion of the tour included a tour of Shingwauk Hall, the Bishop Fauquier Memorial Chapel, the Principal’s Residence, and the Shingwauk Memorial Cemetery. 

Tours are custimizable and staff are willing to work with educators to tailor the tour to education levels and curriclium goals.
