Established as a memorial to the Elgin Settlement of 1849, this museum and adjoining schoolhouse preserve the history of fugitive American slaves who found refuge there. Artifacts and documents from the period are on display, and research and genealogical facilities are available. Events include day-long school tours, an annual homecoming celebration and a historic "Ride Back in Time."
