The mandate of the National Library of Canada is to collect, preserve and promote Canada's published heritage. Housed in the same building as the National Archives, the National Library's collection has over 10 million items including books, periodicals, provincial and federal publications, Canadian newspapers and directories, rare books, literary manuscripts and Canadian adult and children's literature. The special music collection includes Canadian composer Glenn Gould's piano. Exhibitions, lectures, concerts, readings and films are also presented.
