taking shape to play a part

Posture is the shape that we adopt with our body. That shape contains a particular attitude and allows us to assume a specific role that we have undertaken to play in our lives. These shapes are not random nor are they unique. They are a part of a language that we recognize as human.

These collages by Sae Kimura and deborah harris, while appearing very different from each other, share a common theme of exploring posture. The figures they have created reflect and even become the object or space which they inhabit. Perhaps that is true for all of us.

Most of these works were created at Gallery Arcturus, which is supported by the Foundation for the Study of Objective Art.
