Commanda Museum

Commanda Museum is one of the only remaining Victorian Commercial buildings to survive intact and is the only designated historical site in the area. The interior counters, flooring and display units are original and date from 1885 while the adjacent Lutheran Church, built in 1883, provides a charming secondary exhibit space. The Museum’s contents tell the story of the people who settled in the region, many by way of the Old Nipissing Road - the last colonization road opened in Ontario.

Enjoy an interpretive tour of the Museum, appreciate our stunning murals from local Indigenous artist, Bradly Dreamwalker MacDonald, as well as enjoy the internet cafe, with home-baked goodies (and the BEST milkshakes!), while perusing local history books and an eclectic and locally sourced gift shop. Hang out in our teepee or enjoy some time in our reading nook. The Museum is quickly becoming the repository of local history through its development of the Genealogy Exhibit where local seniors are filmed sharing their stories and we strongly encourage you to visit this unique and heartwarming exhibit - and perhaps add your local family stories to the record.

The Museum is not only located on the historic Old Nipissing Road (celebrating 150 years in 2024), but it is within 200 km of 20 provincial parks, is part of the TransCanada Trail, and is on the only highway joining Highways #11 and #69. The Museum is ideally located to offer tourists an an interesting and informative destination.
