O'Brien Trophy

The O'Brien Trophy was the main prize for the National Hockey Association which was started in 1909 by M.J. O'Brien - an enterprener based in Renfrew Ontario. When the League changed from the National Hockey Assocation (NHA) to the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1917, this trophy was played for until 1928 and awarded to the Canadian Champion team who would then play against the USA Prince of Wales trophy winner for the Stanley Cup.
